Prophet on trial for giving false information

A self-acclaimed prophet, David Babalola, who gave false data to the police about his proprietor, was on Friday docked before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court.

The denounced, 43, who guaranteed to be a priest with the Presence Redemption Ministry, is confronting trial on a charge of false declaration.

He argued not blameworthy to the charge when it was perused to him.

The prosecutor, Insp. Cousin Adams, said that the denounced conferred the offense on Nov. 4, at No. 13, Folorunsho St., Off Ajayi Road, Aguda-Ogba.

He charged that the denounced gave false data against his landowner, Joseph Agaga, which prompted his capture and detainment at the police headquarters.

He said, "The denounced had dishonestly given data that his landowner needed to mightily possess the area where his congregation was found.

"Upon examination by the police, it was found that the area really had a place with Agaga."

Adams said the offense negated Section 95(C) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

Area 95 (C) recommends seven years detainment if discovered liable.

Direction to the blamed, Mr O. Quadri, encouraged the court to concede safeguard to his customer, saying that, as a righteous man, he would not sidestep trial nor mess with proof.

Quadri additionally educated the court that he would remain as surety for his customer for the situation.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Helen Omisore, allowed the denounced N200,000 safeguard with one surety in like total.

She said that the surety must give proof of expense installment to the state government and deferred the case till Sept. 14 for notice.
