Senate defers Magu’s confirmation to next week

The Senate yesterday conceded the screening of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu to Thursday one week from now.

Preparation columnists in Abuja, the Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Ibn Na'Allah (APC, Kebbi South), said the purpose behind the move was to permit legislators who were away to take an interest in the screening.

"When we took a gander at the quantity of telephone calls from the legislators who needed to take an interest at the screening, we felt it would not be right for us to continue."

President Muhammadu Buhari, had through a letter to the Senate in July 14, asked for it to affirm Magu as the substantive administrator of the commission.

The Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu had declared at the entire session on Wednesday that the affirmation hearing would hold one week from now.

Additionally, the Senate yesterday asked the Federal Government to upgrade the human services framework at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps.

The call took after the demise of three corps individuals, Miss Ifedolapo Oladepo, Miss Elechi Chiyerom and Mr. Ukeme Asuquo in their introduction camps in Kano, Zamfara and Bayelsa states.
